The Tooth Fairy isn

There has been a lot of discussion lately about how many Americans are avoiding visiting a dental health provider because they do not have insurance. According to a recent poll, dentists aren't the only one feeling the sting of these economic times, since the tooth fairy has had to take a pay cut as well.

The survey, called the Original Tooth Fairy Poll, found that the average amount of money that kids are finding under their pillows in place of teeth is $2.10, which is down from $2.52 in 2010.

The poll also found that the most common amount left under a child's pillow after the lose their tooth is $1. On a more serious note,  35 percent of parents surveyed allow their children three or four sugary drinks a day, which may be contributing to the problem of tooth decay in U.S. kids.

The survey also noted that 71 percent of moms and dads said that they took their child to the dentist for the first time when the kid was between 2 and 3 years old. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry states that a child should see an oral care professional when his or her first tooth comes, or no later than their first birthday.
