About Dental Plans
Dental savings plans are an affordable and easy-to-use alternative to dental insurance. Plan members have access to a large network of participating dentists that have agreed to offer their services at discounted fees. With dental savings plans, you pay an annual fee and receive savings on most dental services throughout the course of your membership. There are no paperwork hassles, no annual limits, and no restrictions based on current health conditions. You are paying for access to a network of dentists who offer reduced fees for a variety of procedures to plan members.
Dental savings plans are an affordable, hassle-free solution for anyone looking for dental care savings. Below is a comparison guide between dental savings plans and dental insurance to help you make an informed decision.
DENTAL SAVINGS PLAN characteristics include:
- No annual limits—plan members enjoy discounts on most dental care services all year long
- Most plans activate within 3 business days
- No tiresome paperwork hassles – plan members simply present their membership card at a participating dentist office for discounts on most dental services
- No health restrictions – there is no need to wait for comprehensive dental treatment plans
- Select plans include discounts on dental specialties, including cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics
- Consumers pay affordable membership fees for access to a network of dentists offering discounts on most dental procedures
- Available directly to individuals, families, businesses and groups
DENTAL INSURANCE Characteristics Include:
- Limitations, deductibles and annual maximums
- Waiting periods for major dental procedures
- Tedious and time-consuming written claims process
- Limitations/exclusions on pre-existing conditions
- Certain dental specialties, such as cosmetic dentistry, are rarely covered
- Consumers pay expensive monthly premiums for defined coverage
- Typically inaccessible to individuals and families unless provided by their employer
If you already have dental insurance, a dental savings plan may be used on procedures that are not covered by your insurance, or during a time when your insurance is not available – such as during a waiting period or after you hit your annual maximum. We recommend talking to your plan provider and dentist before your treatment begins, and checking your insurance policy for any restrictions.
The plans we offer may also be used to reduce your out-of-pocket dental care costs once you’ve reached the annual maximum on your dental insurance plan, or for when a certain procedure is not covered by your insurance. You cannot use your dental insurance and your dental savings plan for the same procedure, in accordance with insurance policy rules. Your dentist can, however, help you maximize your savings using both your dental savings plan and dental insurance. It’s best to check your insurance policy for possible restrictions.
Plan members cannot use two dental savings plans in the same office at the same time. However, you can purchase more than one dental savings plan from DentalPlans.com to use at separate offices. For example, if your orthodontist participates in the Aetna Dental Access Plan and your general dentist participates in the UNI-CARE 200 Discount Dental Plan, you can purchase both plans to use at the appropriate office.
No. Unlike dental insurance, dental savings plans enable people with current dental or health conditions to get affordable dental care.
Fee schedules are a list of set charges for various medical/dental procedures. Procedures are associated with a code (dentists use a “Dental Procedure” code, also known as an ADA CDT code). A fee schedule is primarily used for insurance reimbursement billing, and the ADA CDT code helps to identify the exact procedures in your treatment plan.
No. There are no annual limits to how much you can save each year with dental savings plans. The savings you’ll get for each procedure vary by procedure type, plan, and location.
Your dental savings plan can be utilized within 1-3 business days of signing up and many plans offer same-day activation for emergencies. Just show your participating dental provider your Member ID Card and they will honor the discounted rate according to the fee schedule of your plan.
No, as Medicare does not cover regular dental care such as checkups, cleanings, fillings, or dentures. Medicare Advantage does cover some routine dental services, so check with your plan to see what dental services may be covered.
You cannot use your Medicare Advantage dental insurance and your dental savings plan for the same procedure, in accordance with insurance policy rules. However, a dental savings plan can help fill gaps and provide savings on procedures that are not covered by your Medicare Advantage plan. Your dentist can help you maximize your savings using both your dental savings plan and Medicare Advantage. Dental savings plans may also be used to reduce your out-of-pocket dental care costs once you’ve reached the annual maximum on your Medicare Advantage dental insurance.

We currently only accept payment in full for annual plan membership fees. DentalPlans.com aims to bring consumers a quality product at the lowest cost possible. Accepting monthly payments increases the cost of processing, making the plans more expensive.
For a payment made by credit card, it takes 3-5 business days to process a refund. For a payment made by check or your checking account, it takes 10-14 business days to process a refund. Click here for more information on our refund and cancellation policy.

Plan members will not receive discounts on dental care when visiting an out-of-network provider. However, if a dental care provider would like to join a network, they may contact our Customer Service Department.
Depending on the plan that you join, prices can vary by location and provider.
There are a few reasons that this may occur:
- Your dentist may not be in our network of more than 140,000 dentists nationwide.
- Your dentist may be in network but may no longer accept a specific plan. The information we offer on participating dentists comes directly from dental savings plan networks.
- Your dentist may not yet have notified the network of their decision to stop accepting a particular plan. Call our Customer Service Department at 1-888-632-5353 if you have questions or need more information on the dentists in your area who accept your dental savings plan.
