Free dental care could mean that an increased amount of individuals need better oral hygiene. According to the CDC, there is a growing number of older adults who do not get the care they need.
Many clinics provide free services and the Charlotte Observer reports that nine dentists in Foscoe, North Carolina from the Shelter Rock Ministry volunteered their time. They provided oral treatments such as fixing cavities or making partial dentures to about 100 individuals. The CDC reports cavities affect not only adults, but also children. About half of those aged 12 to 15 have tooth decay.
Keith Phillips, dentist and head of the clinic told the paper that good oral hygiene is important not only for health reasons, but individuals' front teeth are a huge factor in communication and "if you won't smile people will treat you differently."
Although many clinics provide free services, it may only be for a limited amount of individuals.
One way individuals and their families can find affordable dental care is through discounted dental plans.
