The Norton school committee in Massachusetts recently took a unanimous vote that will establish a program in which public school students can receive dental care, according to The Sun Chronicle.
Under the new program, there will be specific times during the school year in which students can be treated. The services will be provided by the Commonwealth Oral Health Services of Taunton, according to the newspaper. The company already provides similar services to Attleboro schools.
The program is aimed at treating students who lack dental insurance, although any student is allowed to receive treatment, the news provider reports. The services will include routine cleanings and cavity repairs.
According to newspaper, there will be a designated site for the treatment at each participating school in the town. Students will be pulled out of class for 15 minutes for their treatment so they do not miss any significant class time during the appointment.
Tooth decay is a common problem among people of all ages and can be prevented through regular oral exams and maintaining a healthy diet, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There are low-cost ways that individuals could find themselves and their families proper dental care.
