Parents who want their children to grow up to be healthy adults need to make sure that they instill the importance of practicing proper dental health habits. However, it can be difficult for parents to know how to care for their children's teeth, or to understand how to explain to them why they need to brush and floss regularly.
Recently, the Fremont Tribune published an article offering parents tips on how to care for their children's teeth and teach them dental health habits. First, it's important to remember that baby teeth are just as important as adult ones, and they need to be brushed and flossed regularly. Also, children should be using flouride toothpaste, but parents have to make sure that they are not swallowing it. To ensure this, only have children use a fingernail-sized amount of toothpaste.
The news source also recommended making tooth-brushing time a fun activity that the whole family does together. Consider playing a child's favorite song while he or she is brushing so they look forward to the activity.
Discovery Health recommended that parents set a time while brushing their child's teeth to teach him or her how long two minutes is. Kids may respond well to brushing until the timer goes off.
