Colorado residents may need discount dental plans
Updated: 12/13/2012 5:57:21 AM

Colorado residents may need discount dental plans People in Colorado may want to look into discount dental plans to help them afford the cost of visiting a dentist. According to a recent study conducted by the Colorado Health Institute, nearly one in four Colorado residents do not engage in preventative dental care due to the steep prices, and two out of five of these individuals do not have dental insurance at all.

The North Colorado Business Review reported on these findings, which highlight the need for options other than dental insurance for these individuals. The number of Colorado residents without dental coverage increased by 17 percent to 2.1 million in 2011, up from 1.8 million in 2009-2010, according to the report.

According to Self magazine, skipping bi-annual trips to the dentist may increase a person's likelihood of not only experiencing dental health problems, but also missing the early signs of heart disease, diabetes and oral cancer.

Hispanics, elderly and lower-income Colorado residents were found to be least likely to have dental insurance. Any individuals without coverage should look into discount dental plans, which can help them get the care they need at a reduced cost.
