Long-term cancer survivor and international wellness authority Greg Anderson was given thirty days to live twenty years ago. His doctor told him “the tiger was out of the cage” and he should get his affairs in order.Like many cancer patients, Greg took his illness as a call for change instead of a death sentence. Rather than die from cancer, he chose to live with it and found simple lifestyle changes that helped him overcome his terminal illness. In conjunction with his doctor’s medical treatment, Anderson changed his diet, changed his thinking and changed his spirit to conquer his lung cancer.
As the founder and CEO of the non-profit Cancer Recovery Foundation, Anderson has devoted his life to helping cancer patients and their families across the globe learn how to prevent and survive cancer. He is the author of several acclaimed books, including The Cancer Conqueror and the international best seller The 22 (Non-Negotiable Laws) of Wellness.
Many Americans are realizing the importance of total wellness in an effort to beat increasing medical costs, fight and prevent illness and live longer, healthier lives.
“Wellness is the complete integration of mind, body and spirit; physically, emotionally, socially, mentally, vocationally and spiritually,” said Anderson. “It’s a decision, a choice, a process to optimize your entire life,” said Anderson.
Through his writing, seminars and support groups, Greg Anderson teaches, challenges and encourages people to help take a new journey toward wellness. Anderson says that true wellness is much more than eating right and exercising, as most people believe. Wellness, according to the author, is a “total change in our approach to daily living; a shift in who we are and how we act with others at home and on the job.”
Based in Hershey, the non-profit organization’s mission is to help all people prevent and survive cancer. The organization’s reach spans the globe and has been helping people since 1985.
Cancer Recovery Foundation focuses on the “people side” of cancer. The Foundation does not underwrite cancer research or medical treatments. It emphasizes a whole-person approach to getting well again, pioneering the “cancer survival pyramid,” a tool widely used in cancer education.
Cancer Recovery Foundation’s adult programs emphasize healthy diets, ability-appropriate exercise, mind/body and faith/health disciplines. Cancer Survival Kits are available to all cancer patients. All Cancer Recovery programs are in addition to, not in place of, conventional medical treatments.
The Foundation’s children’s programs provide toy-filled gift bags to children during treatment, camp scholarships following treatment and emergency financial assistance to families in need.
Cancer Recovery Foundation serves through healthcare providers and directly to individuals. Its adult programs, services and materials are available through more than 300 cancer treatment centers throughout the United States, Canada, France, Great Britain and Germany. The Foundation’s children’s programs and services are available through more than 170 pediatric oncology treatment centers across the United States. A special medical mission outreach also is providing pediatric oncology services in Uganda and Ukraine.
