Nebraska moves toward better dental health  

Encouraging proper dental care is something that all cities should be doing to boost the health of their residents. Recently, the Sidney Sun Telegraph, a Nebraska news source, reported on a new campaign released by the Nebraska Health and Human Services Office of Oral Health and Dentistry that aims to promote dental health.

According to the information provider, the campaign will focus on two major points. The first is that children need to visit the dentist regularly, starting at age 1. The second point that health officials plan to stress is that oral care can affect overall health.

"Good oral health can make a real difference in a person’s quality of life," said Joann Schaefer, M.D., Nebraska’s chief medical officer, quoted by the news source. "We hope the Watch Your Mouth campaign will result in parents making dental health a bigger priority for their children, and for all Nebraskans to learn how they can improve their quality of life in a big way by taking care of their teeth and gums."

The Mayo Clinic states that ignoring dental health may cause the bacteria in the mouth to grow out of control, making it easier for it to enter the bloodstream and potentially result in infections in other parts of the body. This underscores the need for more public awareness campaigns on oral health.
