Going without dental care can damage the self-esteem  

Dental care is something that everyone should have access to, but unfortunately not everyone does. According to a 2010 Reuters estimate, 45 million Americans don't have dental insurance, limiting their ability to get the oral care they need. While some people may think that this isn't a big deal, the way a person feels about their teeth can impact their entire life.

Aside from the fact that ignoring dental care can damage an individual's overall health, it can also impact a person's self-esteem. Recently, The Ledger ran an article by a woman who was having difficulty finding dental treatment, and said that it was negatively affecting how she felt about herself - and how other people saw her.

"I could get a job and work and socialize, etc., if it were not for my bad dental problems. I look like a normal person and get a nice response, but as soon as I open my mouth the assessment of me, as a person, goes down 100 percent," said Joy Bates, quoted by the news source.
