Dental Care at Northern Arizona University - for students, by students At Northern Arizona University (NAU), the Department of Dental Hygiene recently set up a dental health care clinic for its students. One of its notable features is that all of the oral health services provided by the facility are administered by matriculating students in that department, according to Northern Arizona News.

The news source reports that the prices at this clinic are considerably less than those offered at a typical dental practices. Additionally, it is open to certain members of the community surrounding NAU as well as the school's students, specifically low-income children who lack dental insurance and Native American residents.

In Arizona, although residents less than 18 years old may be covered by one of the state-administered healthcare programs, the attached dental insurance coverage ends after they pass that age. For college students who have enough expenses to begin with, dental care might be forsaken if it is not immediately affordable.

Oral health services offered at the new NAU clinic include standard dental checkups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants and X-rays.

The American Dental Association states that dental sealants are important to maintaining dental health in children and adolescents, since they protect vulnerable areas of the mouth from being negatively affected by plaque.
