Dental organization provides mobile oral health care In California, the dental care organization Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County is providing oral health care services for underpriveleged local children in an innovative manner. the organizations providers are using the Smile Mobile, a state-of-the-art dentist's office housed within an RV-sized vehicle, to reach children with dental conditions wherever they might be in the area, according to the Voice of OC.

The news source reports that trained dental practitioners affiliated with the organization have been using the Smile Mobile to perform approximately 8,000 dental procedures each year for Orange County children with advanced dental disease. The group also promotes awareness of dental hygiene and care in local schools, and serves special-needs children.

The Smile Mobile contains all of the essential tools and amenities found in a standard dental office. Its services are considered vital in an area where out of 9,135 children screened by the vehicle's staff in 2010, a total of 3,052 had some form of tooth decay and 582 required emergency dental care, the news source reports.

According to the American Dental Association, although fluoridated water is considered one of the most effective public health measures to combat tooth decay, nearly one third of public water systems are not fluoridated.
