Cedars-Sinai program increases dental care available to students

Cedars-Sinai program increases dental care available to students Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's mobile medical program COACH for Kids and Their Families, based in Los Angeles, California, will be receiving a grant from the National Assembly on School-based Health Care (NASBHC) to improve the dental health services available to students in economically disadvantaged communities.

This school-based program is one of only 20 to earn an NASBHC grant for this purpose. It will be entitled to $15,000 in grant money. These funds will be used to fund oral health screenings, facilitate treatment for children with cavities and other dental problems, allow kids to receive fluoride varnish applications and more.

Michele Rigsby Pauley, program director of COACH for Kids and Their Families, expressed gratitude at her organization's receipt of the grant.

"We're delighted to receive this grant, which enables us to add a vital new component to our oral health services in 14 Los Angeles elementary schools," she said.

According to the American Dental Association, numerous issues unfortunately limit the dental care available to children and adults. Many state medical programs do not provide adequate care to the majority of children, and some entirely fail to provide adult dental health services through their public health programs.
