Free orthodontic consultations may help those with misaligned smiles

Orthodontists to provide free consultations for those interested in braces and teeth realignment. From February 1 to May 21 of this year, orthodontists affiliated with the American Association of Orthodontists will be providing free consultations to patients across the U.S.

Individuals who are interested in straightening their teeth may be excited to hear of new orthodontic technologies.

Dentist Lee Graber notes that "an expert consultation with an orthodontist is the first step for anyone seeking a healthy, beautiful smile." Individuals can discuss treatment plans with an orthodontic professional, who usually trains for two to three years past dental school.

A healthy and attractive smile can help bolster one's confidence levels and comfort in social situations. Common stigma against poorly maintained, uneven teeth, may prompt many to seek out the possibility of orthodontic treatment.

The American Dental Association (ADA) notes that the causes of poorly aligned jaws and teeth can vary from genetics to gum disease.

Individuals with misaligned teeth can develop other oral health problems over time. They may have to strain their teeth and mouth muscles to chew properly. Cleaning their teeth properly, moreover, may become a challenge - and this increases the risk of cavities and periodontal disease, according to the ADA.
