Grants help dental clinic cope with demand for oral care

Grants help dental clinic cope with demand for oral care Low-income patients who turn to dental clinics that provide affordable care will find that grants are helping to keep these practices up and running.

For instance, the Craig Daily Press reports that the Northwest Colorado Dental Coalition (NCDC) recently received more than $140,000 that will go directly toward patient care. The two organizations that funded the monies are the Caring for Colorado Foundation and the Colorado Health Foundation.

Janet Pearcey, executive director of NCDC, told the news source that the clinic has been open for five years and is the sole provider of dental care to low-income patients who live in the Northwest Colorado area. Individuals who are treated at NCDC are charged based upon their income and the grant money will be able to help service an even greater number of patients, according to the news provider.

Pearcey indicated that the demand for dental services in the area has grown significantly and that prior to hiring another dentist, patients seeking emergency care would have to wait up to seven weeks before their appointment. Each year, nearly 25 million U.S. adults, many whom do not have insurance, go to the hospital due to dental-related emergencies, according to the latest statistics from the American Dental Association.

There are affordable, low-cost ways in which individuals who lack insurance can find dental coverage.
