Vermont stimulus package increases availability of free dental care Following the approval of a $400,000 stimulus package by Vermont Senator Bernard Sanders, a health clinic in Plainville expanded its dental services. The Vermont center benefits low-income families, and with the new additions to the facility, an additional 1,000 patients will be treated each year, according to TimesArgus.com.

A total of five new dental chairs have been installed, and the facility recently hired an oral surgeon to treat patients who are suffering from more severe oral health complications. The dental staff also includes three dentists and three certified hygienists, who provide a variety of preventative dental care services, the news source reports.

According to the senator's office, in 2004, approximately 9,500 people in Vermont received free dental care, which increased to a total of 19,000 patients by 2009.

People who do no receive proper dental treatments, like those offered at the Plainville clinic, can suffer from a variety of oral health problems. For example, approximately 23 percent of adults aged 20 to 64 years have untreated tooth decay, according to DentalGuideUSA.com.

People who are in need of a dentist appointment, but have little or no dental insurance can benefit from signing up for a discount dental plan. By taking advantage of these affordable options, patients can receive regular dental care that can protect against dental health problems as well as other complications.
