Free dental care unable to meet growing demand of South Carolina residents
Updated: 8/9/2010 7:00:19 PM

Free dental care unable to meet growing demand of South Carolina residents National economic hardships has created many dental patients who need affordable dental care, including South Carolina residents according to WSPA.com. During the Dental Access Days event in Greenville, which was sponsored by the Dental Association, volunteers were unable to treat all individuals who attended.

Event officials report that more than 1,000 people were treated during the clinic's first day, according to the news source. People lined for the event the day before received care, however, those who showed up the day the free clinic started were turned away.

While these opportunities can benefit some patients, the demand for affordable dental care still outweighs what services are currently provided. In fact, in 2007, only 63 percent of Americans aged 18 to 64 years saw a dentist, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Individuals who are in need of care can benefit from signing up for a discount dental plan, which allows them to see a dentist on a regular basis.
