Free program to benefit Florida residents who lack dental insurance
Updated: 7/26/2010 7:00:05 PM

Free program to benefit Florida residents who lack dental insurance Pediatric patients whose families have little or no dental insurance residing in Gainesville will have a new opportunity to see a dentist in the upcoming weeks, as Millhopper Family Dentistry has announced a free dental care clinic. In order to provide these services, the Florida-based office partnered with Dentistry From The Heart, a non-profit organization, according to The Gainesville Sun.

Millhopper staff report that the first 100 people who arrive will be eligible to receive treatments, including teeth cleanings, tooth extractions and fillings.

As more dental offices support free dental care opportunities, less children from low-income families will go without treatments that prevent dental complications, including tooth decay. From 2001 to 204, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that approximately 23 percent of Americans aged 6 to 19 years suffered from untreated dental problems.

In addition to the office's entire staff, eight other local dentists have also volunteered to help treat patients at the free event, the news source reports.

Since its inception nine years ago, the Dentistry From The Heart program has provided more than $5.5 million in treatments to more than 25,000 patients across the country.

While free dental care events can benefit those with little or no dental insurance, signing up for a discount dental plan allows patients to see a dentist more often.
