Dental care clinic opens doors to pediatric patients
Updated: 7/23/2010 5:00:15 PM

Dental care clinic opens doors to pediatric patients In an effort to improve the oral hygiene of younger residents in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, the Tri-County Community Dental Clinic will begin providing free dental care for children from low-income families.

The clinic will provide pediatric patients with preventative treatments that will protect the children against tooth decay, cavities and other dental complications, according to PostCrescent.com. Patients will be able to receive oral screenings, teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants and some restorative procedures.

Robert Glass, an executive director at the clinic, told the news source that "the goal is to get to children ages 3 to 12 and break the cycle of poor dental care so they don't replace their parents in emergency rooms and clinics like ours."

Similar efforts nationwide will help lower the number of children across the country that may develop these dental problems. In fact, according to the New York Presbyterian Hospital, approximately 50 percent of children in the U.S. will have tooth decay by the third grade.

While having access to free dental clinics can help those who have little or not dental insurance and are in need of immediate treatments, researching discount dental plans can be beneficial to these individuals. By signing up for a low-cost plan, families and individuals can make annual appointments with dentists, and receive more service options.
