West Virgina dentist office to host free pediatric clinic

West Virgina dentist office to host free pediatric clinic In an effort to assist residents of West Virginia counties who lack access to dental care, the Wilson Martino Dental Associates will host the Healthy Kids Drive Free Dental Day. The event, which is scheduled for August 6, will benefit children aged 12 years and younger in need of dental care.

Dentists and other volunteers will provide patients with several services, including dental exams, teeth cleanings, dental x-rays, fluoride treatments, fillings and crowns, according to the Daily Mail. In addition to accepting walk-in patients, event organizers ask that interested families call the Dental Associates office to make appointments for the free dental care day.

Dental offices that launch these types of events can contribute to helping pediatric patients nationwide who would not be able to receive dental care on a regular basis. If children aren't receiving preventative treatments, including those offered in West Virgina next month, they will become more susceptible to tooth decay.

By the time kids reach the third grade, approximately 50 percent will have developed tooth decay, according to the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

While free dental care programs can benefit people with little or no dental insurance, discount dental plans can provide families and individuals with the opportunity to see a dentist on a regular basis. Patients with discount dental plans can also receive a variety of treatments, ranging from annual oral exams to surgical procedures, at a lower cost.
