Stimulus helps dental clinics expand

Stimulus helps dental clinics expand Free and low-cost dental clinics can be an important provider of dental care for those without dental insurance. They can help many patients who do not have the resources to see a dentist regularly avoid a trip to the emergency room for avoidable oral health issues.

The stimulus bill is helping more of these clinics keep their doors open and, in some cases, expand by providing funding for further operations.

A clinic in Augusta, Maine was recently given $1 million in grants and loans to open a new location. Dr Ron Spiller, who runs the clinic, told local NBC affiliate WVIR that it is the last line of defense for individuals with oral health problems.

"A lot of the patients don't have a regular dentist, and their regular dentist is the emergency room," he told the news source. "Right now, we have trouble just keeping up with the emergency patients."

While dental clinics may be an important provider of emergency services for those suffering from serious dental problems, there are many discount dental plans available that can help individuals get regular check-ups and treatments to avoid serious issues.
