Dental health centers benefit from stimulus funds

Dental health centers benefit from stimulus funds Dental health center are among organizations benefiting from the federal stimulus, as local centers are receiving money to expand their operations.

The New Castle Dental Center in Pennsylvania is one such center to receive funding. It just received nearly $240,000 which helped the facility triple in size, allowing it to add capacity and accommodate more patients.

U.S. Representative Jason Altmire told the Youngstown Vindicator that increased capacity of the center, which treats patients regardless of their ability to pay, would come as a major boon to the dental health of area residents.

"In the long term, the facility will help the New Castle Dental Center provide quality health care to a greater number of local residents,” he told the news source.

The expansion took the dental center from a four seat operation to nine. Representatives from the center told the news source the increased capacity would help them get through their backlog more quickly.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that 47 percent of American adults between 18 and 64 years old did not see a dentist in the past year.
