The Children's Dental Center at Creston Elementary School in Portland, Oregon may be forced to close down due to financial concerns, according to the Lund Report. The center has been providing free dental care to children from low-income families for almost 50 years.

The National Assistance League, which has been financially supporting the center, has said that it can no longer afford to keep the program running and will be forced to close it in February if no other party steps in with funding.

"It's really a shame, and we're taken aback by how quickly this all happened," said staff dentist Erica Waldau, quoted by the news source.

"The kids being seen there are the ones who are falling through the cracks," she added. "Even with the legislature opening the Oregon Health Plan to more children, there'll still be kids without coverage."

Waldau and others are currently trying to raise $75,000 to keep the center open until June, when it normally closes for the summer.

Families who are looking to save money on dental care may want to look into discount dental plans, which can save 10 to 60 percent on most dental procedures.
