Luncheon raises awareness of children's dental health

Some parents don't feel that a dental exam is as important as vaccinations and busy schedules often omit a trip to the dentist. However, the start of the school year should be marked with a full checkup for kids, including a visit to the dentist.

One community is coming together in order to promote dental health in children and to remind parents that it is important to attend to their little one's teeth.

Forsyth County, Georgia's, United Way are putting together a Lunch and Learn event in conjunction with the area's Dental Task Force, the local news provider reports.

The United Way aims to bring together local volunteers and calling communities to action.

According to Forsyth News, parents, dental care professionals and anyone interested are welcome to attend and Elizabeth Lense, Georgia's dental director, will on August 25.

The Centers for Disease Control revealed that 51 million school hours a year are lost due to dental problems or emergencies.

Furthermore, the American Dental Association suggests that kids are taken to the dentist right after their first birthday and on a regular basis as they age. Parents should also supervise brushing and flossing twice a day and limit their child's sugary snack intake, particularly between meals.
