Popular sodas and some acidic juices can contribute to tooth erosion, but there is hope for soda and tea junkies out there. A new study written by Dr Mohamed Bassiouny outlines some of the ways in which anyone can attempt to reverse some of the damage.

The first step is to work out what might be causing acid erosion and the best way to do this is to talk with your dentist during your dental checkup. This will help any individual understand why the substance in question is contributing to tooth enamel erosion.

Finally, people should try to eliminate or cut down on the substance that is causing the tooth damage and a dentist can also inform individuals as to what treatments might help reverse damage, Bassiouny suggests.

"Excessive consumption of the acidic beverages over a prolonged period of time may pose a risk factor for dental health," he advises, explaining that sodas and citrus juices are the main culprits.

The American Dental Association reminds people that processed sugars can contribute to tooth decay and to maintain good oral health, adults should eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and legumes.
