 No matter what your financial situation, sacrificing dental care is not a wise choice, although you can get away with reducing your visits a little bit.
"Generally, we recommend twice a year, but if you need to save, you can cut it down to once, as many of our elderly patients do," said Gaylynn Perry, a dental office manager, speaking to the Statesville Record & Landmark. "We need to do X-rays to check for cavities, an exam and a cleaning, as prevention is the best medicine. It's much cheaper to find things earlier and just fill a little cavity as opposed to letting it go and then you need a root canal or an extraction."
The article offers a number of reasons why scrimping on visits to the dentist is unwise, and regular check ups should be considered an essential part of a dental health regime, even if you must shift priorities in order to get the money together.
"Infections in your mouth can kill you; they're very serious if you leave them," Perry said. "A lot of people let it go because of money, but without your health, you have nothing."
