Maintaining good dental health may garner a date

Forget deep blue eyes, trendy hairstyles and athletic prowess. According to a new study, the most attractive aspect people find in others is a smile.

A national survey by the American Dental Association (ADA), Crest and Oral B found a person's smile outranked eyes, hair and body as the most attractive physical feature.

Unfortunately, the survey also showed men and women have different ideas of what good dental care represents.

Out of the 1,000 Americans who participated in the survey, 86 percent of women brush their teeth twice or more a day, a routine only 66 percent of men said they embrace.

It was also found women change their toothbrush or power toothbrush head every three to four months, which is in line with the ADA recommendation. Men changed theirs every five months, according to the survey.

Where the sexes appeared to be equal in poor dental care was flossing, where approximately 49 percent of men and women said they floss their teeth at least once a day.

"Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, eating a balanced diet, and visiting your dentist regularly can help keep your smile healthy," Dr Ada Cooper, an ADA consumer advisor, said.
