For optimum dental health, brush for at least 3 minutes

How long do you spend brushing your teeth? If you are like most people, you dedicate less than one minute to this dental hygiene habit, according to the Academy of General Dentistry.

However, the AGD recommends that for optimum dental health, a person should spend between three and four minutes brushing their teeth.

In order to help people keep track of how long they spend brushing, the academy suggests that an egg timer can be used - or you could turn on the radio and brush to the approximate length of one song.

Some other tips for making sure that tooth-brushing is incorporated into your daily routine include keeping a sticky note on your office desk as a reminder to brush at lunchtimes and keeping an extra toothbrush in your bag.

According to data gathered by the AGD and Oral-B Laboratories, people who store a brush at work increase their chances of following a proper dental care routine by 65 percent.

Tooth brushing helps people remove food debris from their teeth, which may otherwise lead to cavities and other dental health problems.
