Losing teeth is an age-old problem. As an article from Best Syndication notes, humans do not have teeth that re-grow like rodents or sharks - once we have lost our adult teeth, they are gone for good.

The traditional solution to this problem has been dentures, which have served perfectly well in one form or another for hundreds of years. In fact, one of the most famous myths about George Washington was that he wore wooden false teeth.

However, dentures do come with their own problems. They can make eating and drinking difficult and have to be taken out when the wearer needs to go to sleep, leaving them with an unsightly gummy smile.

Modern techniques have now been developed to find a more effective solution to dentures, such as dental bridges and implants.

Dental bridges involve fastening an artificial tooth, known as a pontic, to the adjacent teeth, either using a dental crown or bonding.

Meanwhile, dental implants, which are rapidly increasing in popularity, function like the root of a tooth, with a crown on top acting as a normal tooth.

There is also sometimes a chance that the original tooth can be saved and re-implanted if it falls or is knocked out. Experts say that if a tooth does come out, it will have a better chance of being put back in if it is put in milk immediately and the root is not touched.
