Health Tip: Recovery After a C-Section
What to do after the procedure
Updated: 6/5/2008 10:00:30 AM

(HealthDay News) -- Among women who have given birth via Caesarean section, each will recover a bit differently from this major surgical procedure.

But there are common after effects of a C-section. Here's a list, including suggestions to help you recover, courtesy of childbirth.org:

  • Pain at the incision site.
  • Uncomfortable gas.
  • Contractions of the uterus.
  • Significant fatigue.
  • Any staples or stitches that need to be removed are usually taken out after about four to seven days.
  • Try to do as little as possible, although taking a few steps beginning right after surgery is encouraged.
  • Avoid lifting anything that weighs more than your baby.
