Your smile is one of the first things that other people notice. If your smile is degraded by tooth decay, staining and dental problems and/or if you have bad breath, then you are going to turn people off. In order to put your best foot forward in social situations you need to protect your smile.
Brushing and Flossing Your Teeth
The first way to protect your teeth and your smile is to brush and floss your teeth twice a day. Brushing will need to involve a soft toothbrush, fluoride-enhanced toothpaste and a 45-degree angle brush stroke. You will want to brush your teeth at least twice a day, investing about three minutes per tooth brushing session. After you brush your teeth you will need to floss them to remove food particles that have gotten stuck between your teeth.
Preventing Bad Breath
The freshness of your breath is another important aspect of your smile and communication. If you have bad breath, people are going to avoid you and judge you poorly. Fortunately, keeping your breath fresh is easy to do. Some of the steps that you can take to keep your breath fresh are: brush and floss regularly, drink plenty of water, use a toothpaste with baking soda, use a mouthwash with chlorine dioxide instead of alcohol and visit your dentist regularly.
Routine Dental Visits
Visiting your dentist twice a year is your final line of defense for protecting the quality of your smile and the health of your mouth. Routine dental care like cleaning, fluoride treatments and tooth sealant applications can help to protect your teeth from decay and staining. Dentist visits can also help you to correct cosmetic issues like crooked teeth, chipped teeth and stained teeth. Finally, routine dental visits can help you to identify the root of chronic bad breath.
