Lou Rawls, a Grammy-winning singer, has been diagnosed with brain and lung cancer. The 72-year-old is being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
His spokesman says Rawls was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, he found out about the brain cancer in May. His condition became public in an Arizona court where he was seeking an annulment of his marriage. He was undergoing treatment, and wasn't able to attend the hearing.
"Don't count me out, brother," Rawls told an Arizona paper. "There's been many people who have been diagnosed with this kind of thing and they're still jumpin' and pumpin'."
The Chicago-born singer told the paper he smoked regularly as a young man, but quit 35 years ago. He also said he has received both "alternative and traditional treatment."
Rawls has sold more than 40 million albums, and won three Grammys. His hits include "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine," "Love Is a Hurtin' Thing" and "Dead End Street."
