(ARA) - The most wonderful time of the year is also the most dangerous time of year on our nation's roadways for exactly the reason you think. Because so many people are in a festive mood, out enjoying themselves, there are higher than normal instances of impaired driving in the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
If you end up being one of the more than a million drivers arrested for drunk driving each year, it's going to cost you big. Not only are you in danger of losing your license, you will have a permanent criminal record, and have to spend upwards of $5,000 to cover fines, court costs and attorneys fees, not to mention increased insurance premiums.
You may be thinking to yourself, "There's no way I'd get behind the wheel drunk, so I have nothing to worry about." But for some people, one drink is all it takes. Be a responsible party host by asking your guests to take a breathalyzer test before they get behind the wheel.
"Police officers aren't the only ones who can carry breathalyzers. They're also available to responsible people who want to use them as tools for personal monitoring," says Matthew Son, president of AK Solutions, LLC USA. His company manufactures the AlcoMate Prestige and AlcoMate Plus personal breathalyzers that use patent pending replaceable modules instead of calibration, which other brands require, to get accurate results. "The modules can be easily swapped out by the consumer, thus saving time and money, and prolonging the life of the breathalyzer," says Son.
Both models that are certified by the FDA, approved by the DOT, ISO 9002 certified and meet the requirements of the US Coast Guard's recent mandate to have breathalyzers aboard every merchant marine vessel in U.S. waters.
All you have to do to use them is turn the device on, blow sharply and steadily into it, then wait a few moments for the analysis to be done and the person's blood alcohol percentage to flash on the screen. Click here for more information about how the devices work.
If, after blowing into the device, the guest's blood alcohol level is higher than .08 percent, it's recommended that you request them to wait a while longer before driving. "You may even want to ask them to wait if it's as low as .05 because it has been actively shown that there is a greatly increased risk of impairment at that level as well. Most people are very cordial about it and will actually thank you for showing you care about their well being," says Son, who points out that a lot of parents get these for their kids when they start driving because they want to make sure they won't drink and drive.
AK Solutions' personal breathalyzers with replaceable modules are so accurate, they are used by many law enforcement agencies and hospitals across the country. They are also available direct to the public through the manufacturer's Web site: www.personalalcoholtester.com. Pick one up today so you can enjoy the holidays without having to worry.
