Miami, Fla. Physicians at Kendall Regional Medical Center now have a new way to access medical data. Genus MD is a personalized information system developed exclusively for HCA affiliated physicians. It offers convenient access to their patients’ information via the Internet and is available anywhere, anytime. Genus MD is easy to use and can be personalized according to the physician’s preferences. “Genus MD is ideal for busy, on-the-go physicians since all they need to access patient records is a computer with Internet access,” says Yvonne Odette, Director of Physician Relations at Kendall Regional. “Genus MD is also revolutionary in that it combines both clinical and non-clinical data in a single site and it can interface with other systems, hospital and non-hospital alike. It’s really a fantastic convenience for our physicians.”
Because of the sensitive issue of patients’ right to privacy, Genus MD employs the most advanced security system to protect the transmission of data. Participating physicians are issued a SecureID, either as a keychain or card. The SecureID displays a digital 6-digit number, which changes every minute. When a physician logs in, the system will ask him or her to key in that number. The pass code safeguards the account from unauthorized access. Once the physician is logged on he or she can obtain clinical test results; electronically sign reports and view deficiencies; and access professional reference tools such as Skolar MD and Micromedex.
“The Genus MD system is a great example of how, yet again, medicine and technology have blended together successfully. It’s easy, simple and safe and it allows me to log on and download needed patient records in minutes,” says Dr. Rodolfo Martinez, a colon rectal surgeon at Kendall Regional Medical Center. Kendall Regional offers Genus MD to their affiliated physicians as a complimentary service.
