New dental health advocacy organization established at Temple University ceremony On August 3, the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders, a new international organization intended to promote dental care practices around the world, was inaugurated. The group intends to focus their efforts with particular fervor in global locales subject to violent conflicts and other social crises.

The ceremony took place at the Performing Arts Center of Temple University, as the educational institution's Kornberg School of Dentistry is one of the alliance's first signatories. Amid Ismail, dean of the Kornberg school, will also serve as the organization's first chairman.

At this initial session of the new alliance, Ismail and the other signatories, including dental university representatives from Israel and Palestine, discussed plans to efficiently and effectively bring necessary oral health care to those in need.

The organization intends to avoid partisan political or social thinking in its actions, as confirmed by Ismail.

"We want to create an international organization that uses oral health to cross borders, whether they are geographic, political, economic or mental borders - that will nurture and support programs that meet critical needs, while also promoting peace," Ismail said.

According to the World Health Organization, several of the predominant globe-spanning risks to the general population's oral health are poor diet, malnutrition and use of tobacco products.
