Allcare, a dental chain that closed down in January, has left a large number of confused customers without regular dental care, Businessweek.com reports.
The company closed its dentists' offices in Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. As a result, patients have lost their scheduled appointments and regular care. Many individuals must now search for new providers, according to the news outlet.
Those with limited or no access to dental insurance may have the emergency room as their only option for severe oral pain in the interim.
These individuals may be interested to know that free clinics are held across the country to serve low-income and uninsured individuals' oral needs.
According to the American Dental Association, regular visits to a dental professional are essential for diagnosing and treating incidences of tooth decay and gum disease. Yet, many state programs do not offer basic dental coverage - including preventive services - for American adults.
