Some communities lack the facilities needed to provide dental care

Some communities lack the facilities needed to provide dental care The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that individuals should receive regular dental check-ups to help prevent future oral problems, such as gum disease or tooth decay. However, there are some communities where people may have a difficult time finding places that offer care.

Connection Newspapers reports that individuals who would like to receive treatment at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic in Virginia have to wait a year from the time they call for an appointment to the time they are treated. This is because it is the only facility in the area that offers dental care at a discounted rate for low-income adults.

Meanwhile, there are sometimes lines of people who wait for more than an hour to receive treatment at the Fairfax County Health Care Center, according to the news source.

Fairfax County in particular has seen a 78 percent increase in requests for healthcare assistance, according to the newspaper. Volunteers and donations are heavily relied on so that these individuals can receive treatments, including dental check-ups.

Individuals who lack insurance and are looking for low-cost oral care can find affordable coverage for themselves and their families through discount dental plans.
