Practice gave more than 800 children free dental care

Practice gave more than 800 children free dental care A national dental care practice reportedly gave more than 800 children free dental care during last month's Give Kids a Smile event, which is part of a national initiative put on by the American Dental Association.

Dentists around the country provided children who may not have access to dental insurance with teeth cleanings, x-rays and exams during the month-long program.

"Unfortunately, many children do not see the dentist on a routine basis for basic dental services," said Dr. Jordan Spencer, an Illinois dentist. "Because of Give Kids A Smile, we were able to make sure they received the care they need and deserve."

However, dental organizations are urging parents and their children to continue with their daily routines to maintain good dental health.

Approximately one in four children aged 2 to 11 years olds have untreated cavities in their primary teeth, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Without a regular dental checkup or administering routine care, cavities can lead to serious health problems in the future.

The ADA recommends parents give their children early dental care at the first sighting of a tooth and that a child's first dentist appointment should come by their first birthday.
