Tooth decay is brought on by more than just candy
Halloween is almost here, and there has been a lot of talk about how the upcoming candy binges that children will indulge in may increase their risk of tooth decay. However, it's important to remember that it's not just the sugar present in candy that can cause dental health issues - it's all sugars. Recently, the Victoria Advocate published an article reminding readers that there are many different culprits behind tooth decay.

According to the news source, even raisins in a child's trick-or-treat bag given out as a "healthy" option can still pose a threat to his or her dental health. That's because raisins, along with most other fruits, are still high in sugar. If people don't practice proper oral care habits to remove these leftover bits of fruit stuck between teeth or along gumline then they will turn into plaque and cause gum disease.

The Victoria Advocate recommended chewing sugar-free gum after a snack to help wash away food particles.

Fit Day suggested that people who are looking for a dried fruit treat that is healthier than sugar-packed ones try dried apples, apricots and mangoes.
