Many Americans don't have dental care coverage, some of whom live in the state of Georgia.
More than 100 million people in the U.S. don't have dental coverage, according to NBC. One dentist group in Savannah has decided to help some of these individuals by offering its services for free on November 20 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Now more than ever, I know there's people out there that need our services, but have no means to afford them," said Dr Julie Howard, co-owner of the Howard Dental group, to the news source.
"Obviously, there's only so much treatment we can do in one day," the group's CEO Ryan Dew told the Savannah Morning News. "Basically what we're able to offer is a free cleaning, a free extraction or a free filling."
About 40 percent of adults over the age of 20 who live at or below federal poverty guidelines suffer from tooth decay, according to the Morning News. The Mayo Clinic says untreated cavities can lead to infections, tooth loss and other health problems. Although free one-day-only dental care can be a useful resource, such events are an inadequate substitute for regular treatment because they are often first-come, first-served.
