Worries about the poor U.S. economy may be taking their toll on people's dental health, it has been suggested.
As stress affects an increasing number of Americans, DenTek Oral Care is advising those who grind their teeth to try using a nightguard.
Tooth grinding - or bruxism - affects the vast majority of people at some point during their lives, according to figures from the American Dental Association.
Some of the negative effects of bruxism may include worn-down teeth or tooth enamel, jaw or face pain, headache and interrupted sleep patterns.
DenTek says that wearing a nightguard can help those who suffer from tooth grinding to find some relief from their discomfort.
"A well-fitting nightguard can be a simple solution for protecting your teeth from the ill effects of bruxism," commented Dr Noshir Mehta of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
