Practicing proper dental hygiene is simple. All it requires is a daily routine of brushing and flossing and twice-yearly trips to the dentist's office to keep your teeth in tip-top shape. However. many people do not take these steps, and that's how they end up with cavities, gum disease and other dental health problems.
In honor of the fact that October is National Dental Hygiene Month (NDHM), The American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) is teaming up with the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company to stress just how simple and easy maintaining oral health can be with their "Keep them clean. Keep them healthy" campaign.
"NDHM is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of a good oral health regimen to total health, and to honor the work that dental hygienists do all year," said ADHA president Susan Savage.
One of the focuses of this campaign is building proper oral care habits in children. Discovery Health recommends that parents should brush their children's teeth for them until they are at least 3 years old, then observe them until they are sure that they know what they're doing.
