The Hispanic Dental Association is offering some tips for parents on how to ensure that their children's teeth are protected from Halloween candy. The organization states that it's important to have fun on this holiday, and an emergency trip to the dentist would certainly put a damper on the evening.
The association suggests taking a little extra care with brushing the teeth on Halloween.
"That special brushing time on Halloween night should be a twice-daily activity! Young children need help in cleaning all the hard-to-reach places where sugars and plaque gather in the mouth. As kids age, they still need frequent reminders about brushing and flossing," said Yolanda Bonta, D.D.S.
Beth Truett, CEO of Oral Health America (OHA) added that making sure that children have proper oral care is part of the unwritten agreement that parents have with their kids that promises they will keep them healthy. On their site, OHA offers brochures in Spanish that give advice on how to maintain the dental health of children.
