October is National Orthodontic Health Month and one dentist in Minnesota is encouraging adults to seek out dental care.
Some adults never had braces as children and now wish they had straight teeth. They may be too embarrassed to pursue orthodontic treatment because they're afraid of how they'll look. But Dr Jennifer Eisenhuth of Burnsville says that these people have options.
Dr Eisenhuth says individuals who want to correct their crooked teeth should explore a system that uses clear, plastic aligners to gradually straighten smiles. She says adults like these because they're removable, which can be convenient during special occasions such as group photos and speaking engagements.
The dentist also says lingual braces can be a good idea, as these are worn on the backs of teeth and are therefore harder to see.
Having straight teeth makes for a nicer, healthier smile. When teeth are crooked, it's easier to develop gum disease and tooth decay. "These are things that we want to prevent in patients regardless of their age, and you're never too old to take corrective action," said Dr Eisenhuth.
