One group of Wisconsin dentists were determined to cover dental care costs for the underprivlidged and managed to raise $1 million to put towards this cause.
According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, the Wisconsin Dental Association has a Donated Dental Services program where dentists are invited to donate care for patients who cannot afford dental insurance fees.
Last year, it helped poorer individuals, seniors, the uninsured and disabled afford essential services.
Each year, the average person's dental work can end up costing around $3,500 the news provider reveals. This figure covers basic procedures and services such as dentures, crowns or fillings.
Donated Dental Services help those who are not eligible for coverage under government plans because they are unable to work due to health complications or disability and therefore cannot afford healthcare.
The news provider reveals that over the past 11 years this program has managed to donate $5.2 million in services to 2,010 needy patients.
The American Dental Association encourages regular visits to the dentist to insure that adults maintain a healthy mouth and teeth. This is in addition to remembering to brush and floss a minimum of two times every day.
