Many people don't visit a dentist because they are afraid that the dental work will be painful or unpleasant. In fact, MedicineNet.com states that between 9 and 15 percent of Americans completely avoid going to the dentist due to fear. However, some dentists are working hard to help people overcome their fears by giving them a reason to want to come to the dentist.
For example, Gulf Coast News Today, an Alabama news source, recently reported on Robertsdale Dental Care, which offers prizes to patients who refer others to the practice.
"We give prizes every quarter," Shannon Bankester, marketing coordinator with Robertsdale Dental Care, told Gulf Coast News Today. "Then, at the end of every year, we draw for a main prize."
The newspaper also spoke to one of Robertsdale's patients, who said that he had a very pleasant experience, especially when he won a four-wheel scooter. It's important for dentists to remember that it's not just children who enjoy receiving presents following a trip to the dental health professional, but adults as well.
This may encourage people to visit the dentist more often, and it may alleviate some of their fears.
