Many Americans have been ignoring their dental health, and according to a recent government report, they are doing so because they cannot afford trips to the dentist. WebMD reported on the survey, which found that four out of 10 adults in the U.S. cite cost as the number one reason why they do not go to their dental health professional for regular cleanings, or when they experience tooth pain. These findings highlight the need for discount dental plans and other initiatives that help people gain access to affordable dental care.
Surprising, only one in 10 adults said that fear was the reason why they avoid the dentist. Researchers said that the results suggest that lack of dental insurance is a major factor behind decaying oral health in America. These findings could also suggest that many U.S. residents are unaware of the other ways that they can gain access to the dental care they need, such as discount dental plans.
Everyday Health recommends that people visit dental schools, look into clinical trials and consider purchasing a discount dental plan if they want to save money on dental care. No one should end up in the emergency room due to tooth pain when there are so many ways to gain access to affordable care.
