Americans have been struggling for access to affordable dental care, especially those who live in rural areas where there tend to be few dentists. In response to this, The Alliance for Access to Dental Care passed new legislation that will help residents connect to dental health professionals.
"The passage of this legislation is good news for the people of North Carolina, a state that currently ranks 47th in the nation in access to dental care," said Doug Brown, CEO of Affordable Care, Inc. and a member of the Alliance.
The bill includes a six-member task force that has been given the assignment to ensure that all North Carolina residents have access to affordable dental care. This is important, considering that the government estimates that more than 130 million Americans do not have dental insurance, and many of these individuals may be skipping trips to the dentist to pay for other medical care.
The American Dental Association recommends that in order to maintain optimal dental health, individuals should visit their dentist at least twice a year for cleanings. This legislation hopes to make that goal reachable for all North Carolina residents.
