Dental care organization donates $20,000 to local oral health initiative

Oral Health America donates $20,000 to Deamonte Driver Dental Project Oral Health America, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to dental care, has recently awarded a $20,000 grant to the Deamonte Driver Dental Project, a community oral health initiative based in Prince George's County, Maryland.

The school-based project was created in memory of 12-year-old Deamonte Driver, who died in 2007 from a brain infection caused by a tooth abscess. The program was launched a year later to ensure that each child in Prince George's County would have access to necessary dental care services.

"The painful lesson learned from the needless and tragic death of Deamonte Driver is that without access to quality dental care, every child in America is at risk," said Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD).

"Because of the support from Oral Health America, the Deamonte Driver Dental Project will ensure that children in our community who are most vulnerable to dental disease will receive the care they so desperately need," she added.

The grant was made possible by Trident Gum and the Smiles Across America program, who are committed to contributing $1.5 million to dental care charities over the next three years.
