One national chain's charity is proving its heart is in the right place in terms of dental care education for families and their children.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities is giving $10,000 to two southeast Idaho groups in an effort to provide information about the health benefits of routine dental care to parents and kids, Kidk.com reports.
The two programs that will benefit from the large donation will be the Pocatello/Chubbuck Head Start Program and the Southeastern District Health Department. Each will split the gift evenly and receive $5,000.
Karla Luedtke, a dental hygienist for the district health department, told the news provider the money will also help provide dental checkups for "several hundred," some of whom may not have access to dental insurance.
"We'll be able to provide services four times a year for them," Luedtke said. "We'll be able to talk with parents, do education, provide tools, and toothbrushes, thing that they need."
According to the American Dental Association, childhood tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease and if left untreated, especially at an early age, can lead to other serious health problems.
