Access to dental care becoming more difficult for Americans

The dental health crisis in America is getting worse, as millions of U.S. residents struggle to gain access to dental care. According to a recent article in The Sun, a California news source, 108 million Americans do not have dental insurance, highlighting the need for affordable alternatives, such as discount dental plans.

The article was written by David Lipschitz, M.D., who said that although federal law mandates that every person eligible for Medicaid receive adequate dental care, it doesn't always happen.

"Because of a shortage of funds, states deliver dental care to fewer than half of the children who are eligible for Medicaid, and statistics for public health programs for adults are even worse. In Minnesota (the state with the best record), 56 percent of children on Medicaid receive no dental care," Lipschitz wrote for the news source.

Individuals in rural areas have a particularly tough struggle to gain access to dental care. Kaiser Health News reports that in Kansas, they call these areas in the state "dental deserts" and they include one 500-square-mile area where there are no dentists at all.

All of this highlights the need for more options, such as discount dental plans, that help people get the dental care they need.
